ABOUT TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL
Originally organized by Ralph Smedley in Santa Ana, California, in 1924, Toastmasters International is now a world leader in communication and leadership development. The organization has more than 352,000 memberships. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 16,400 clubs in 141 countries that make up Toastmasters’ global network of meeting locations.
ABOUT GAVEL CLUBS
Gavel Clubs are a way of providing the Toastmasters experience to groups who may be ineligible for regular membership due to age, inability to pay dues or other circumstances. Persons joining regular Toastmasters Clubs must be 18 years of age or older, and also must pay standard membership dues. However, there are no age restrictions on membership in Gavel Clubs. No dues or fees are charged to belong to a Gavel Club. Members of Gavel Clubs cannot hold full-time paying jobs. Following similar Toastmasters Club meeting protocols, Gavel Clubs use club officer titles and education manuals. However, Gavel Club members are referred to as “Gaveliers”. Gavel Clubs use the program, procedures, materials and services of Toastmasters International.
