The Social Security Ticket to Work Program

Program Overview

The Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work Program helps individuals with disabilities explore employment opportunities and achieve greater financial independence. Through this free and voluntary program, participants receive employment-related services and support to help them determine if work is right for them, prepare for employment, secure a job, and maintain long-term success in the workforce.

Services are provided through authorized Employment Networks (ENs) and may include:

  • Career counseling and career planning
  • Job readiness and employment preparation
  • Job search and placement assistance
  • Ongoing employment support and retention services
  • Guidance on transitioning from public benefits to earned income

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in the Ticket to Work Program, individuals must:

  1. Be between the ages of 18 and 64.
  2. Have a disability or be blind.
  3. Receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or both.
  4. Have a goal of obtaining employment and increasing financial self-sufficiency through work.

Program Goal

The goal of the Ticket to Work Program is to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve greater independence by providing the tools, resources, and support needed to pursue meaningful employment and reduce reliance on public benefits.
