Independent Living Skills (ILS)

Independent Living Skills (ILS)

The Independent Living Skills (ILS) Program is designed to help individuals with disabilities achieve greater independence and self-sufficiency in their daily lives. Through assessment, training, and ongoing support, participants develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to make informed decisions, manage daily responsibilities, and actively participate in their communities.

The Independent Living Skills Coordinator works closely with each consumer to assess their current level of independence and identify personal goals. Individualized training plans and group learning opportunities are then provided to support each person’s unique needs and aspirations.

Independent Living Skills Services Include:

  • Information and referrals to community resources and services
  • Educational workshops and guest speakers on topics related to independent living
  • Daily living skills training
  • Self-advocacy and decision-making skills
  • Goal setting and personal development
  • Employment readiness and workforce preparation
  • Stepping Stones to Employment Program
  • Peer Counselor and leadership training opportunities

Peer Support Services

DRC believes that individuals benefit from learning from and supporting one another. Peer Support Services provide opportunities for consumers and their families to connect with others who share similar experiences, challenges, and goals.

Through individual, family, and group peer support, participants receive encouragement, practical guidance, and emotional support while developing stronger social and interpersonal skills. These services help individuals build confidence, foster meaningful relationships, and successfully navigate personal and community challenges.
