Founded in 1976 by three young Long Beach residents with significant disabilities, DRC was established with a vision of providing people with disabilities the tools and opportunities needed to live independently and participate fully in community life. Those founders recognized the need for a community-based organization that would empower individuals with disabilities and connect them to the resources necessary to achieve independence, self-determination, and equal access.
Originally created as a community information and referral center, DRC continues to uphold that mission as a fundamental part of its services today. The Center provides accurate, up-to-date information about disability-related programs, benefits, services, and resources available both through DRC and throughout the community.
Whether you are seeking assistance for yourself, a family member, a caregiver, or someone you support, DRC can help identify and connect you with appropriate resources. If your needs can be addressed through one of DRC’s programs, our staff will connect you with the appropriate department. When services are needed beyond DRC, we provide referrals to trusted community agencies and organizations serving people with all types of disabilities.
