Community Outreach
The dedicated staff and volunteers of Disabled Resources Center, Inc. (DRC) regularly spread awareness of the Center’s resources through many avenues, from speaking and having booths at civic and organizational events, to giving workshops and trainings benefiting the entire community. Several times monthly, the Coordinator of DRC’s longstanding, successful Mobility Management/Travel Training Program presents, both off-site and on-site, group and individual training on effectively using public transportation.
Annually, DRC facilitates a series of Town Hall Meetings in various Long Beach City Council Districts, discussing not only the Center’s programs and services, but also issues of interest and concern to the Disabled Community. The Center maintains an active program of outreaches to local schools, and an ongoing collaboration with the Long Beach Public Library. Our staff are members of such community organizations as: Citizens Advisory Commission on Disabilities (CACoD), DRC Advocacy Group, South Bay Disability & Senior Collaborative, Access Services, Long Beach Transit’s Paratransit Advisory Committee and STAR Group Initiative Project Advisory Group, and the Homeless Coalition.
