MEDICARE IN CALIFORNIA
If you retire when you’re 65 and lose your employer-sponsored health plan, you have affordable insurance coverage options through Medicare. This federal program provides basic coverage for hospital and medical care for seniors and younger people with qualifying medical conditions. There are nearly 3.5 million Californians enrolled in Medicare. Most people don’t pay a monthly premium for the Part A hospital coverage, but if neither you nor your spouse paid Medicare taxes for a certain number of years, your monthly premium could be up to $471. Your monthly premium for Part B medical coverage is around $149 unless you qualify for income-based financial assistance.
